A year ago today Todd started his new position in California! As I sit here typing this in our recently renovated kitchen, it seems near impossible. Impossible because it went so quickly....and yet again, it seems crazy so much could have happened in only a years time!
These last few days bring back memories of dragging 8 bags to the airport somehow packed in the trunk of a rented Mustang! We had no idea that while that seemed like heavy packing then, as it included everything from the dog crate to file boxes, it wouldn't nearly hold us over for the next 4 months in a hotel until our belongings were delivered to the house we purchased. I remember this day a year ago being a tough one for me. I spent probably 10 hours alone in the hotel room that day beginning shortly after 5 am when we woke up on our own because we were still on EST.....too afraid to leave Breck in his new surroundings alone to venture out, no one to spend time with, Todd busy at his first day of work and with little time to check in with me, collecting change for laundry, hanging clothes in the hotel closet and lining up our shoes on the floor, scouring the internet for homes we hadn't already seen on our house-hunting trip, anxiously awaiting potty breaks for Breck, making to do lists, grocery lists, to buy lists.....anything to keep me occupied! That day seemed like it would never end and I had never been so excited to see Todd come home from work! Over dinner that night, we talked about if we thought we had made a mistake....Gosh, had we known then what we know now...I'm not sure we would have done things the same. That's the thing about hindsight, right? Thank goodness things have changed since that day! While this is not our forever home, it is our for now home and it is certainly feeling more and more like home each day!

Here I sit.....
Here I sit writing this post, instead of closing on our home today, as originally planned. This is the product of several unfortunate events that were out of our control over the past few weeks:
-There were several liens against the home (back taxes, child support, credit card debt) we had to wait to clear in order to get a clean title
-We have waited, and waited, and waited on several documents from the sellers that have arrived in a very untimely manner
-We just got the last of those documents, the HOA disclosures, yesterday
-There is a huge discrepancy in the true square footage of the home and what the tax assessors office has on file....I don't think we are going to be so lucky to pay those deflated taxes!
-While all along, we were supposed to close today, suddenly the seller is realizing how nice free housing is and doesn't want to move out until she absolutely is made to....as you can tell from the above information they are clearly dragging their feet.
So, we are not closing today after all. As you can see, this is completely out of our control. Yet, we have spent the last two weeks on the phone, signing papers, keeping everyone on the same page, pushing for documents, securing a loan, picking up what others drop, moving around money, and juggling so many balls just trying to keep them all in the air! It has brought me to the verge of tears on several occasions, due to the high levels of frustration, and we have sworn we will never buy a short sale ever again! We have spent entire days working on this like there was no tomorrow...simply exhausting ourselves, yet seeming to have achieved nothing by the time our heads hit the pillow. I have felt like we were running backwards! We have done everything to make sure it didn't all come crashing down, and if it did that it wasn't due to lack of effort on our part. I don't think this quite embodies the level of anxiety we have been under to make this work, close on time, get out of this hotel, compromise with the seller, appease the bank, get our stuff out of storage, and work around Todd's work schedule.
Yesterday was the eleventh hour, and after a full and stressful day we felt completely defeated and frustrated knowing we would not be closing today and taking possession of the home on Monday, before Todd goes out of town. Todd and I decided we should get out of the hotel for the night and go out for Mexican and Margaritas...that always seems to make anything better! It seemed to work!
Today, I thought I would be upset and still frustrated. However, I feel so at peace with God's timing in this whole thing. I have spent my morning responding to emails that are unrelated to the house, on the phone with people I want to talk to, and focusing on my grocery list instead of my moving list. (Sidenote: We are still doing our walkthrough this evening) For some reason, we are supposed to continue living in this hotel, storing our stuff, taking Breck out to a tiny patch of astroturf in my robe every morning, delaying our move date, and eating out of a toaster oven. God surely is mysterious!! ;o)

What we are up to....
We have had several people ask about the logistics of our move, so I though I would share!
Both of our cars have been picked up to be shipped, and we are now driving this rented Mustang (I'm not sure how we are getting all of our luggage to the airport in this) for the next day or two.
We finished packing our suitcases to take on the planelast night this morning at 2 am. In case you are wondering what 30 - 60 days worth of clothes and more things than anyone should ever transport via dragging them to the airport looks like, here's a glimpse....
The chaos of packing began early this morning, and since then all we have heard is tape guns in chorus! Today they are packing in boxes, and tomorrow they will come back to load everything onto the truck. This is what our little condo looked like this morning prior to about 6 people on our doorstep!
In the meantime, Breck is busy doing this... must be nice I would LOVE a nap about now!

Hood Household Changes!
No, we did not buy new furniture, or rearrange what we already had....I am sharing pictures of our house as it is now, because oh so soon it will not look anything like this, and all of these things will be packed to travel to the West coast, and sit in storage for about a month. We have loved this cozy little condo, and will miss it!
Why the West coast?? Todd is staying with his current company, but accepting a promotion that will temporarily take us to the corporate office in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. So, we are relocating to Sunny Southern California before the month of March says goodbye! It is all happening so quickly, and we are sad about leaving so many things behind on the East coast, but we are so excited for Todd's career advancement and our new adventure together!
We are heading out to LA this week for a house hunting trip. We are asking for prayer for us to be efficient as we only have 3 days, and to find housing that we can call home for the next few years. When we get back to Orlando, my parents are coming to visit (and returning Breck since they are babysitting while we are gone). We are planning on possibly our last trip to DisneyWorld with them on our season passes (we will soon have Disneyland...one Disney to another). Then, it will be back to craziness as we will only be in Orlando for another week after that! We will be sure to keep everyone updated on our move through our blog!
